Ciliary staphyloma with descemetocele

This type of pathology was seen day in and day out at the Kurji Holy Family Hospital Eye Clinic. Corneal perforation - occasionally traumatic but most frequently from deficient diet, poor hygiene, smallpox, and hypopyon ulcer from preventable diseases - was a major culprit.The photograph demonstrates a permanently blind eye with a huge ciliary staphyloma and with a descemetocele of the cornea. Proper public health measures with proper nutrition would play a major role in reducing suffering and blindness in India.
