Severe Capsular Phimosis

Thomas A. Oetting, MS, MD

Here we show a case of a patient with loose zonules from ROP who developed severe anterior capsular phimosis following cataract surgery. Look at the amazing force of the phimosis which curled this single piece acrylic IOL. No capsular tension ring was placed, which was probably an error in retrospect. This video demonstrates the technique used to relax the phimosis. If he did not have such severe nystagmus, relaxing incisions with a Yag laser could have been performed.
