Optic nerve pits are colobomatous defects in the optic nerve, most common inferotemporally. Most optic nerve pits are asymptomatic, but they can occasionally cause serous macular detachments as seen in this fundus photograph. A large window defect can be seen in the macula on fluorescein angiography due to atrophy of the retinal pigmented epithelium. The OCT scan shows extensive subretinal fluid extending from the optic nerve.
