Session 7: Oral Exam Potential Question

1) What is IFIS? — What causes IFIS? — What can you do if your patient has IFIS?

Answer

IFIS is Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome

IFIS is caused by alpha blocker medications, such as Tamsulosin (Flomax)

If your patient has IFIS, you can consider using a Malyugin ring or iris hooks to expand and stabilize the iris during cataract surgery.
