This is Richard Allen at the University of Iowa. This video demonstrates removal of titanium mesh in a patient with a previous orbital floor fracture repair. The patient had chronic pain which was thought to be associated with the mesh. This mesh can be very difficult to remove due to tissue ingrowth. Many oculoplastic surgeons discourage using mesh in orbital reconstruction. Dissection is carried out along the orbital floor to free the mesh from the orbital floor. The mesh can then be somewhat difficult to free from the periorbita due to the tissue ingrowth. In this case, removal of the mesh did result in resolution of the patient's pain.
