Near visual acuity

Near visual acuity is determined with the patient wearing their glasses. Each eye is evaluated separately. The patient holds a near card at a comfortable distance, usually about 18 inches. The patient should then read the smallest print possible. The pinhole occluder is usually not used for this part of the examination.
