Placement of a pressure patch

Application an eye patch is usually performed with two eye pads. The goal of the procedure is to keep the eye closed under the patch. Therefore, the patch can be placed one over the other, or the bottom patch can be folded in half to apply additional pressure in order to keep the eye closed. The patient or an assistant is the instructed to hold the patch as the first piece of tape is placed over the patch. The patient should keep their eye closed as the tape is applied. Multiple strips of tape should be placed. In this case, paper tape is used which has less adhesive. If the patch needs additional support, benzoin can be placed on the skin followed by the use of silk tape. I believe it is better to use more tape than less to ensure that the patch remains in place.
