This 37 year-old-male was using a compressed air wire wheel brush when a wire came loose and was lodged in the cornea. He was not wearing safety glasses. The wire was removed in the operating room where it was found to penetrate fully through the cornea and required one corneal suture. Interestingly, the wire was removed about three hours after this incident and a rust ring had already formed. The vision at last exam was 20/40 and no signs of infection were present.
