Meibomian gland orifice plugs

meibomian gland orefice plugs

Occasionally in a patient with a foreign body complaint, careful examination of the lid margins will reveal orifice plugs protruding from the lid margin. Removal of these plugs with a moistened Q-tip will reopen the meibomian glands and remove the foreign body sensation. There are at least 2 such orifice plugs in the upper lid in this photo.
