"Y-suture" Cataract

Category(ies): Cataract, Lens
Contributor: Matt Ward, MD

This is a 46-year-old male with a promient Y-suture cataract. This is a congenital lens opacity that occurs at the location of closure of the fetal lenticular nucleus. The anterior sutures are in the shape of a Y and the posterior sutures are an inverted Y. These are rarely visually signficant.
