Penetrating keratoplasty (PKP)

Contributed by Jesse Vislisel, MD and Kenneth M. Goins

Penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) performed on a patient with severe corneal scarring and stromal thinning after developing bacterial keratitis in the setting of HSV-related neurotrophic disease. Manual trephination was performed as we were unable to achieve suction with the vacuum trephine due to the irregular corneal surface.
